How to Recover Deleted Folders

You can distinguish between deleted files/folders and existing files/folders by these icons:

Files

White icons show existing files.
Grey icons show deleted files with a good chance of recovery.
Black icons show deleted files with a poor chance of recovery because they may have been overwritten or partially overwritten on the disk.

Folders

Yellow icons show existing folders.
White icons show deleted folders with a good chance of recovery.
Black icons show deleted folders with a poor chance of recovery.

Important

As a precaution, Active@ File Recovery warns you if you try to recover files back into the same drive. A newly created file might overwrite (in whole or in some part) the deleted file during the recovery process, or the contents of other deleted files may be overwritten. Always undelete files to another logical removable, floppy or network drive.

To Recover Deleted Folders:

  1. In Active@ File Recovery, search for deleted folders and select the folder.
  2. To open the Recovery Options dialog box, use one of the following methods:
    • Click Recover on the toolbar
    • Right-click the folder, and then choose Recover from the context menu
    • Drag and Drop the selected folder to another logical drive

  3. To give the folder a name, you may use the folder name that appears in the Name field or you may type in a different name.
  4. The Recover To field allows you to recover the folder to a specified location. You may type in a different path or click the ellipsis button (...) and browse to a recovery folder location.
  5. Click Recover.

After the recovery process is complete, make sure that the results are correct by verifying the contents of files and subfolders. In some cases, a folder cannot be reliably restored because its contents or a part of it has been overwritten.
